I’m a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind where I work on full-stack LLM research with Yujia Li and Oriol Vinyals. I’ve been a core contributor to Gemini 1.0 - 3.0, PaLM 2, and Bard, where I’ve led various RL, data, and coding efforts. I am currently working on agentic models that can act over long horizons.

My goal is to develop AI that can empower individual humans (e.g., assistants, education) and benefit humanity (e.g., science, societal systems). I like to use real-world applications to motivate methods and understanding of how models work.

Previously, I did my PhD at MIT with Deb Roy in the Media Lab and Jacob Andreas in CSAIL. I interned at Facebook AI Research with Jason Weston and Stephen Roller, and Google Brain with Peter Liu. Before that, I was at Facebook briefly building human-AI moderation systems. I did my undergrad at UC Berkeley in EECS and got started on research working on biomedical imaging and protein structure prediction.
